The Founders

LHM traces its origins to the shared vision of legendary boutique hoteliers:
The Legian Bali owner, Robby Djohan, along with co-founder of GHM (General Hotel Management Ltd.) Ralf Ohletz and pioneering Indonesian financier Irma Djohan. LHM is born of their shared, uncompromising vision for excellence in service, authenticity in hospitality, innovation in architecture and beauty in nature.

Robby Djohan

Leading Indonesian businessman Robby Djohan started his management career at Citibank in 1968 and moved to Bank Niaga in 1976 where he rose to become its President in 1982. Djohan was instrumental in developing Bank Niaga from the smallest to second largest private bank in Indonesia. During the Asian Economic Crisis, the government of Indonesia turned to Djohan to rescue and restructure its national carrier Garuda Indonesia. During his eight-month tenure, Djohan resuscitated the brand’s image and profitability. A year later, the IMF and Indonesia’s President again turned to Djohan to oversee the complex financial restructuring and merger of four state banks into Bank Mandiri, today the largest and most profitable bank in Indonesia. Djohan’s unique perspective on global finance and business inspired his three best-selling management books: The Art of Turn Around, Leading in Crisis and Lead to Togetherness. Equally visionary within the world of hospitality, Djohan collaborated with GHM to develop The Legian Bali in 1996. His first foray in hotels established GHM at the cutting edge of stylish, service-led luxury boutique hospitality. Djohan passed away in Jakarta in May 2016.

Everyone at LHM shares in the sincere commitment to deliver authentic, bespoke service of the highest quality to our discerning guests.
