The Founders

LHM’s ongoing success is rooted in the shared vision for excellence of its leaders. Robby Djohan’s co-founders continue to drive the legacy he created to greater heights today.

Robby Djohan

Leading Indonesian businessman Robby Djohan began his career at Citibank in 1968, moving to Bank Niaga in 1976 where he rose to become its President in 1982. Djohan was instrumental in developing Bank Niaga from the smallest to the second largest private bank in Indonesia. During the Asian Economic Crisis the Indonesian government turned to Djohan to restore the image and profitability of its national carrier Garuda Indonesia, which accomplished in a mere eight months. A year later the IMF and Indonesia’s President tasked Djohan with overseeing the complex restructuring and merger of four state banks into Bank Mandiri. Today it is the largest and most profitable bank in Indonesia. Djohan’s unique perspective on global finance are immortalised in his best-selling management books: The Art of Turn Around, Leading in Crisis, and Lead Togetherness. Equally visionary within the world of hospitality, Djohan gave birth to The Legian Bali in 1996, establishing LHM at the cutting edge of boutique, service-led luxury hospitality. Djohan passed away in Jakarta in May 2016.
